About me

San Diego Drum Teacher Simon DasGupta is the founder of San Diego Drum Lessons. Based at Studio West in Rancho Bernardo, we have been offering drum lessons in San Diego since 2007 at our dedicated state-of-the-art facility.

Playing the drums has provided me with a very rewarding career, plenty of life experience, and a creative channel that continues to inspire and challenge me every day.

Educated in drum set performance in London (UK), through a combination of private drum tutors, as well as Master Classes with renowned players; I have studied many aspects of drumming, and read music fluently. Over the years, I have worked with a number of excellent drum teachers, and been exposed to many personalities, different techniques and approaches. I have developed my own teaching style based on the best of these encounters, and look forward to passing the benefits of this experience on to you.

During my career as a Professional Drummer; I have been privileged to have played at some of London’s most prestigious hotels, worked as a House Musician for the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, toured in Europe and the United States – and even played the nightclubs of Calcutta, India. I have played on independent album releases in both the UK and the US, worked extensively in recording studios, television and radio, and am currently a first-call musician for selected local theaters in the San Diego area, as well as local Music Producers.

Based in San Diego, California since 2007, I began by working out of my home studio in Rancho Penasquitos. In 2013, I moved to a dedicated facility at Studio West in Rancho Bernardo; where I continue to build my business; teaching one to one personalized drum lessons, five days a week. I am also an active player on the local San Diego music scene. During my time in Los Angeles, I contributed drum tracks for the music featured on CNN and ABC Television networks. (Anderson Cooper’s “Heroes” and ABC’s “Baby Daddy”).

In December 2011, in conjunction with Studio West in San Diego, I organized my first drum clinic under the San Diego Drum Lessons brand. This was an integral step in building a local drum community to share ideas, promote drums and percussion, and build a lasting relationship with drum students and drum enthusiasts. The clinic featured my friend; Nashville Session drummer Rich Redmond. See News and Views for more information. Our most recent events were in May 2012 with legendary drummer Gregg Bissonette, December 2013; again with Rich Redmond, and September 2014 with Thomas Lang. In 2015, I became an official endorser of the Vic Firth drum stick company; an honor given to me in recognition of my service to drum education.

I am also very proud to announce that in January 2016, I launched my online video drum lesson service for beginners – Drum Ambition. Just over one year in the making; Drum Ambition takes my unique approach to drum lessons to a global audience. You can expect unparalleled production, structured content, and exceptional value. You can get full details on the Drum Ambition website.
